Dealers Looking Forward to Tidewater’s 2016 Line

by Ted Lund

One of South Florida’s largest boat dealers is just back from the Tidewater Boats’ Dealer Meeting and believes the Columbia, S.C.-based boat manufacturer has big things in store for boat owners across the country.

Sundance Marine’s Jordan Turner was encouraged by the company’s dedication to innovation.

“We’ve only been handling them for about eight months,” says Turner. “But what really impresses me is their dedication to improving the product all of the time and the quality of their construction.”

The night before the swim September 12, 2014Sundance (www.sundancemarineusa.com) has five dealerships spanning Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Stuart and Melbourne.  They won Rookie-of-the-Year honors based on selling more Tidewaters than any other dealer.

“What was exciting to see in this year’s lineup was that they’ve developed some great new products for just about each of the markets they  cover,” says Turner.

Highlights for him in terms of appeal to his customers?

“I’d say the refined 280 Adventure and the all-new 252 Adventure are the most exciting to us,” says Turner. “For us, center consoles are the biggest part of business during the summer months and Tidewater has been a great find for us.”

Turner says that in the past they had a number of customers looking at center consoles but were priced out of the market — and Tidewater fit in perfectly.

“We were an Edgewater dealer, and just had a lot of customers coming in looking for that type of boat, but finding themselves priced out of the market. They’d just leave,” says Turner. “Now, they leave with a boat.”

Turner says that the Tidewaters have been outselling Regal, Formula and other popular manufacturers at his dealership which is a full-service brokerage dealing in boats ranging from $20,000 to $900,000 — all summer long.

“For us, those center console types with twin engines are the really big draw,” says Turner. “Boaters wanting to spend time offshore in the 252 CC Adventure 11Gulf Stream want that reliability associated with twin engine boats.”

Another big hit for his colleagues in the Treasure Coast-Space Coast Markets? The all-new 2500 Bay.

“The new stepped hull design is really sharp,” says Turner. “I think anybody looking at a Yellowfin or similar style-bayboat will be wanting to take a long, hard look at this.”

And his thoughts for new product he learned about at the meeting?

“Keep your eyes out for an even larger center console,” says Turner. “That one will be a huge seller for us. The biggest thing about manufacturers like Tidewater is that they listen to the dealers and develop products that we know we will be able to sell. And that willingness is a huge plus.”
